The short version: What If Hub sets no cookies, runs no advertising trackers, and has no accounts, newsletters or forms. It counts visits with one privacy-focused service, Cloudflare Web Analytics, which you can switch off. The only personal data involved is what any website's servers see when you visit, and anything you choose to send us by email.
Who runs this site
What If Hub (thewhatifhub.com) is run by Wesley Tasker, based in the UK, who is the data controller for the site. For anything on this page, email hello@thewhatifhub.com.
What is collected, and why
When you visit a page
Like every website, the servers that deliver this one record basic technical details of each request: your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, your browser and operating system, and the page you came from. Those server logs are held by our web host, CloudNext, and used to keep the site running, secure and protected from abuse. They are not used to identify, profile or market to anyone.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests, running a website that works and stays secure.
Fonts
The site's typefaces, Inter and Space Grotesk, are both open-licence fonts served from this site itself. Your browser doesn't contact Google or any other font provider to display them.
When you email us
If you email hello@thewhatifhub.com, we receive your email address and whatever you write. It is used only to reply and to act on what you've said (fixing a correction, for example) and kept only as long as that takes. It is never added to a mailing list.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests, answering the message you sent.
Cookies and storage on your device
This site sets no cookies, and neither does the visit counting described below.
The site can save two small notes on your device, both in your browser's own local storage. Neither is sent anywhere and we cannot see them:
- Checklist progress. When you tick an item on an interactive checklist, such as the 30-day plan, your browser keeps a note so the list remembers where you got to. It only exists if you use a checklist, and you can clear it with the checklist's Reset progress button or by clearing this site's data in your browser.
- Your analytics choice. If you use the button in the Analytics section below, your browser keeps a note that you objected, so the site remembers.
We rely on the exceptions in the UK's cookie rules (PECR) for both, which is why there is no consent banner. For visit counting, that exception comes with a right to object, which the button provides. The ICO explains the exceptions on its storage and access technologies guidance.
The share buttons on articles are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to Facebook, X, LinkedIn or WhatsApp unless you click one, at which point you are on their site and their privacy policy applies. The same goes for the many other sites we link to.
Analytics
To see which guides people read, What If Hub counts visits using Cloudflare Web Analytics. It's used only to improve the site, and only as aggregate counts: pages viewed, where visits came from, and broad technical details such as browser and country.
When a page loads, your browser contacts Cloudflare, which receives your IP address and browser details as any server you connect to does. Cloudflare says that for Web Analytics it doesn't use cookies or local storage, doesn't track people over time by IP address or browser details, and doesn't collect or use visitors' personal data. You can read Cloudflare's own description in its Web Analytics documentation, its announcement of the service and its privacy policy. Cloudflare is a US company and may process these requests outside the UK.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests, understanding how the site is used so it can be improved.
You can switch it off. Use the button below and this browser won't be counted. The choice is remembered in your browser's local storage, which is the only thing it saves, and it isn't sent anywhere. Counting is also off automatically if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
Visit counting is on, unless your browser has blocked it.
Affiliate links
There are none yet, see the commercial policy. If that changes, clicking an affiliate link may let the retailer or affiliate network set a cookie on its own site, recording that you arrived from What If Hub so a commission can be paid if you buy something. This page will be updated, and affiliate links labelled clearly, before any go live.
Who else handles data
- CloudNext, website hosting, content delivery and the hello@thewhatifhub.com mailbox.
- Cloudflare, aggregate visit counting (Web Analytics), as described above.
Personal data is not sold, and is not shared with anyone else.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to or restrict how it is used, and ask for it in a portable format. Email hello@thewhatifhub.com and you will get a reply within one month. In practice very little is held: the server logs sit with our host and cannot be linked to you unless you give enough detail to find them.
If you're unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
This site is written for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
